The Importance of Local Books

The cornerstone of the Enduring Legacy Press business plan is a belief in the importance of local publishing. All too often, the histories of our communities are contained only in scrapbooks. All too often, the stories of our children are lost forever or, at best, noted sketchily in high school annuals. All to often the collective wisdom of the men and women who built our families and our communities is lost, not because that wisdom was not important, but because it was not recorded.

What would you pay today for a brief history of your 1st grade class? Or for a book that told the story of your high school band the year you won the state championship? Or for a book that told the history of your church or a book that retold the story of your high school football team? The answer, for most of us, is that these sorts of books would be priceless reminders the people, the places, and the events that helped shape our lives. These are precisely the kind of books that Enduring Legacy Press publishes.

ELP provides its Publishing Partners with the tools and products designed to make local publishing practical and affordable. Often, we utilize print-on-demand technology; sometimes we use a hybrid of print-on-demand and traditional offset printing.

We equip our Publishing Partners with editorial and publishing support designed for one overriding purpose: to create books and web pages that recount the stories of our time. Those stories are, in a very real sense, the enduring legacy that we leave to future generations. And, if we don’t record them today, they may be lost forever. May it not be so. Instead, let us tell our stories and record our histories so that our memories will remain fresh and our collective wisdom will give guidance to those who follow in our footsteps.
