Approximately six times each year, ELP offers its Publishing Partners
the opportunity to participate in the creation of locally significant books.
These books are designed to contain approximately 80 pages of national content,
40 pages of local content (submitted by the participating Publishing Partner), and in some
cases, another section that contains local advertising.
- In the creation of an ELP book, Publishing Partners may
choose to sell advertising which typically occurs on the final pages and the
back cover of the book. Advertising may also be used a way of generating
funds for local organizations; in such cases, the organization's members
will sell advertising, and a portion of the revenue from those sales will be
retained by the sponsoring organization. Publishing Partners may also sell
Sponsorships for each book.
- If organizations choose to assist in the sale of books, the
organization will, in most cases, receive a portion of
the proceeds from the sale of each book. For example, if a book typically
costs $12, the organization might choose to charge $15 for each book and
retain $7.50 of the sales proceeds. Such arrangements are managed the local
level and are the exclusive purview of each Publishing Partner.
- The local portion of ELP books are printed using
print-on-demand technology. Print-on-demand technology is designed for
shorter print runs (typically for quantities of 1 to 500 books). In order to
minimize costs, ELP will print the pages containing national content in
large quantities using traditional printing methods. As a result of this
hybrid printing process, the overall cost of books is substantially reduced,
thus increasing profitability to Publishing Partners.
- Although pricing of books and of advertising rates is
suggested by ELP, Publishing Partners are free to set any prices they choose
for books, for advertising, and for sponsorship.
- Printing costs are negotiated by ELP and Publishers order
their books from the approved ELP Printer. ELP will maintain a current price
list on its web page. Publishers will order their books directly from the
ELP printer and will pay the printer within 30 days of delivery.
